Christian Relationship Advice When Help is Needed

Christian Relationship Devotional: You are Perfect to God

Unfortunately, many of us live our lives believing we aren’t “good enough” because we can’t accept God’s view of us. We may be convinced we aren’t beautiful in our appearance because we compare ourselves to the world’s standards of beauty. Others of us judge our value on our achievements, attributes, and abilities. When we don’t feel like we measure up to the world’s standards of success, we judge ourselves as inadequate.

In order to understand God’s definition of beauty and perfection, we have to look as his creation. For six days, the Artist Creator produced his masterpiece. Consider his creation and its diversity: stars, galaxies, mountains, flowers, trees, plants, bugs, animals, lakes, valleys, deserts, and sea life. Just consider the diversity of sea life—much of which lives at the bottom of the ocean—where man can’t see and only God can. It isn’t wasted because God takes pleasure in His creation.

God doesn’t look at our achievements, attributes, abilities, or outward beauty. He looks at our hearts. He created each of us as unique individuals perfectly and wonderfully made in his image. In his eyes, your worth is not tied to what you do, what you have, what you achieve, or how you look. It is based on the fact that you are created in his image and likeness to have a relationship with him, and that is enough to make him love you.

God’s creation is full of diversity and uniqueness. You are beautiful, perfect, and adequate because you are uniquely God’s special and divine creation. You are good enough for him. Can you be good enough for yourself?

Relationship Devotional Prayer

God,

Help me know you love me just as I am. Help me accept myself and see myself as beautifully, perfectly, and uniquely made.

Relationship Devotional Challenge

  • Change your thinking to reflect God’s view of you. Let the way he created you be good enough.

Scripture Meditation

These are some of the things he says about you:

  • “All beautiful you are, my darling; there is no flaw in you” (Song of Solomon 4:7).
  • “But, my dove, my perfect one, is unique” (Song of Solomon 6:9).
  • “How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride!” (Song of Solomon 4:10).
  • “You have stolen my heart” (Song of Solomon 4:9)
  • “You are the apple of my eye” (Psalm 17:8).
  • “I have an everlasting love for you” (Jeremiah 31:3).
  • “I’ve paid an extraordinarily high price for you, the blood of my Son, but you were worth it” (1 Corinthians 6:20, Romans 5:8).
  • ” You are one of my chosen ones. You are part of my royal priesthood and you belong to me” (1 Peter 2:9).

If we could only grasp God’s view of our value and beauty, we would be set free from the limited view that we are only as valuable as our appearance, achievements, attributes, and abilities. I know when I mediate on how God sees me, I feel loved, accepted, and adequate. How about you?
